Lesbian, gay, bisexual & transgender (LGBT) library services

Brighton & Hove libraries are committed to providing a service to the whole community, through the provision of information and book collections to reflect the entire city population.   Lesbian choosing a book

Both Jubilee Library and Hove Library have separate sections of LGBT interest books and films, and there is also a circulating collection which moves around the community libraries, as well as a small selection of books on the mobile library. New titles are being added to stock regularly, covering contemporary fiction, including books from the Diva range and the Prowler press for gay men, as well as a wide range of information books, covering subjects such as lesbian parenting and gay health issues. If you have a suggestion for a book or film you'd like to see added to the LGBT section, please email libraries@brighton-hove.gov.uk

There is a specialist collection of transgender interest books in the LGBT sections at Hove and at Brighton libraries, which were bought in collaboration with the Clare Project. Information about local and national helplines and groups is included in every copy.

As well as books and films on video and DVD, the LGBT sections include community news magazines such as The Pink Paper, G-Scene and 3Sixty, and there are copies of Diva and Gay Times available to read. There are also posters and leaflets about local and national events of interest to the community.

A lively reading group for the LGBT community meets at Hove Library on the third Tuesday of each month at 6.45pm. New members are always welcome to the group, which is informal and friendly, and reads a wide range of lesbian and gay interest fiction. For details of the next meeting, telephone (01273) 294073 or email libraries@brighton-hove.gov.uk
