Computer use in libraries

Computers are available in all Brighton & Hove libraries.

  Computer users

Who can use the computers?
You need to be a library member to use a computer, so will need to bring your membership card with you. The service is free with black and white printing at 10p per page. If you are not a member, you will need to join before you can book a computer. You must also agree to abide by our Acceptable Use Policy.

How do I book a computer?
You can book computers online in Jubilee Library and Hove Library using the computer bookings system. A member of staff can show you how to use this. Alternatively you can telephone the library that you want to go to and book a slot. For library contact details, please go to the find your library page

Can children use the computers?
Yes. If you are under 16 years of age you will need your parent or guardian to sign a permission form.

For how long can I use a computer?
You may use a computer for up to one hour per day.

What can I use the computers for?
The computers are all connected to the Internet. You can surf the Web, search for information, send or receive email. You can also use Microsoft Office packages, which cover word processing, spreadsheets, databases and PowerPoint for presentations. Scanners are also available.

What if I don't know how to use computers?
Silver Surfer sessions are available in many of our libraries to help the over-50s to learn about Internet and email.
All computers also have BBC Webwise to introduce you to the Internet.

What if I have special access needs?
We provide a variety of things to help those with special access needs to use our computers. For further information visit our accessible computers page.
