In December, we launched our new library computer system called Spydus. Spydus is a
new generation of system that in the coming months will bring important benefits to library
users.
With the new system, you will be able to:
- Join the library, reserve items and manage your account online
- Choose to receive information on overdue items and reservations by email or text message
- See book reviews and images of book covers
- Set up subject lists and receive automatic notification about new books of interest to you
The new-look library catalogue will be easier to use, both in the library and over the Internet. The changeover took place during October and November 2007. We have converted all our catalogue records and stock ordering information to the new system. The process was quite complex and we would like to thank our customers for their patience during the changeover period.
We have also joined a consortium of authorities called
SELMS (South East Library Management System) which brings together the library
computer systems for six library authorities in the South East. They are West
Berkshire Libraries, Wokingham, Windsor and Maidenhead, Buckinghamshire, Milton
Keynes and Brighton & Hove Libraries.
Once all our partners have
changed over to the new system, you will be able to use your Brighton &
Hove Libraries membership card in any of the participating libraries to borrow,
request and return books and other items.
- Will I need a new library membership card?
- No, your current card will work with the new system.
-
- Why can't I see my account or renew books online?
- Some customers using certain web browsers cannot see the login box at the moment. This is in the process of being fixed, but in the meantime you can find
out your account details and renew books in person at any library, or by calling our renewal telephone line on 01273 296959. We apologise
for the inconvenience caused.
We would like to thank you for your patience during the changeover period and are confident that you will
enjoy the benefits of the new library computer system.
For further information, ask staff at your local library.
