Borrowing

 

How many items can I borrow?

  • when you first join the library, you will be given a six month provisional membership card. You may borrow up to eight items in total, including two audio-visual items such as CDs, DVDs or videos

  • after six months we will ask you to confirm your current address. You will then be issued with a full membership card. You can now borrow up to twenty items in total, including eight audio-visual items

  • books are free to borrow, but for some things such as DVDs there is a charge. Please go to the fees and charges page for more information on our charges

How long can I borrow items for?

  • books, language courses and audio books can be borrowed for three weeks. You can renew them for a further three weeks if no-one else has asked for them

  • DVDs, videos and CDs can be borrowed for one week. These can be renewed for a second week for which there will be a futher hire charge.

Can I renew my items?

  • you can renew in person, over the internet or by telephone. If you are renewing over the internet you will need your library card and PIN, and if renewing by telephone please have your library card or one of the items ready

  • explore the online catalogue, search for, reserve and renew items
  • use computers free of charge
  • find out about collections and services available in Brighton & Hove
