all our libraries
Large print books
You can borrow large print
books, which are available in every library,
free of charge on your library
card.
Talking books
You can borrow talking books
on audio cassette or CD, free of charge
on your library card, if you are
visually impaired. Talking books on cassette
are available in all libraries. Talking
books on CD are available from
Jubilee Library
and
Hove Library.
Reservations
If you are visually impaired you can reserve
talking books from any Brighton & Hove
library free of charge.
Audio-described
videos
You can borrow audio-described videos from
our equal access services centre, free of
charge via your local library. Audio-described
videos provide a narration of what is happening
on screen, in addition to the usual dialogue,
and enable people who are visually impaired
to gain more enjoyment from films on video.
Talking book service
If you are visually impaired and have difficulty
in using a library, you may also be interested
in our free talking book service. This service
can supply you with two books on audio cassette
per fortnight. Books are sent to your nearest
library, for collection. If you have no one
able to collect your books for you, you could
also apply for our housebound service, and
we will try and arrange for a volunteer to
collect and deliver your books.
If you wish to apply for the talking book
service or the housebound service, contact
your local library, and staff will ensure
your details are forwarded to the service
co-ordinators.
Magnifying sheets
Magnifying sheets are available to use or
purchase in every library.
