Housebound readers

If you have difficulty in getting to a library, we offer

  • a free volunteer service to collect and deliver books*
  • a longer loan period
  • access to our services via this website
  • access to our services by telephone
  • a mobile library service

*You may be eligible for the free volunteer service if you are housebound, because you are getting on in years, or suffering from a long term illness, or a disability, and have no friend or relative able to collect and deliver books for you.

The housebound library service

If you are a resident of Brighton & Hove, and are unable to get to a library, you can apply for the housebound service by contacting your local library, or via the Equal Access Services Centre on (01273) 296906. We will then try and match you with a volunteer who will collect and deliver your books to you. You can either ask your volunteer to select books for you, or you can reserve particular books that you want to read, free of charge, via your volunteer, or by using the library website. You and your volunteer can decide between you how often you would like a visit.

Housebound Service to Customers living in their own home

Please note that from July 07 until further notice we are unable to accept new Housebound applications for our Home Volunteer Delivery Service to customers in their own home. However we are taking names on our waiting list when normal services are resumed.
